Dear Serra parents:

French student exchange program:
French Exchange students will be here in just a few weeks and we're still looking for host families. If you're interested, please fill out the host family questionnaire on the French Club page on the Serra website: click here.  Don't miss out on this great opportunity to make international friends! There will be a host family meeting on Wednesday, October 7 at 7 pm in room 103. Please contact Mme Dowden at mdowden@serrahs.com  for more details.

From the Attendance Office:
We make it our practice NOT to interrupt classes during the school day to deliver notes to students, remind them to pick up their lunch, etc unless it is for an emergency. Recently we have had a rush of parents asking us to send notes to students, which can be disruptive to the classroom environment. If your son needs to pick up something in the front office, please direct him to do so before you drop him off at school that day. Also, if your son will be leaving school before the end of the school day, he should bring a note signed by a parent to the Attendance Office; we will issue him a Permit to Leave Campus. Without such a note, your son will be considered to have cut class if he leaves the campus without permission. We follow our attendance procedures as listed in the Student-Parent Handbook very closely, and we appreciate your cooperation for the sake of your son and the other students in his classes. Thank you, Bob Ferretti, Dean of Students, rferretti@serrahs.com ; Jan Daniele, Attendance Secretary jdaniele@serrahs.com

Traffic Disruption on 20th Avenue:
We have been notified by the city of San Mateo that 20th Avenue will be repaved in front of Serra during the first weekend of October. On Saturday, October 3rd, there will be limited access to 20th Avenue, and there will not be any parking permitted on 20th.  The paving will take place on Sunday, October 4th, and there will be absolutely no traffic or parking on 20th Avenue that day. Although these dates may change, please plan accordingly.

From the Dean of Students:
Please not the following change to the dress code: Students will be allowed to wear a sweater at school, provided that they are wearing a shirt that has a visible collar underneath the sweater. Please also remind your son that any non-Serra issued sweatshirt is prohibited and therefore should not be worn to school. Thank you for your cooperation and support. --Marybeth Ortiz and Bob Ferretti: mortiz@serrahs.com rferretti@serrahs.com

Please encourage your son to use his login information daily in order to receive important information from their teachers. Sincerely, Keith Strange: kstrange@serrahs.com

Parent-Teacher Conferences, October 8: This date was left  off the school calendar. On this evening parents will be able to meet with their son's teachers. If you are interested in being a member of the Booster Board, contact Athletic Director Kevin Donahue at kdonahue@serrahs.com.

From the Athletic Director:
A reminder to all sophomore, junior and senior parents that if your son plans on trying out for a team this year, he will need an updated physical release form on file.  There are now two parts to the form and both must be turned in.

All varsity football games are being broadcast live over the internet this year.  Go to the Serra Website and to the athletic page and either click on the icon or scroll down to the link on the left side banner.  All the games are archived so you can listen again at your leisure.  The games are being brought to you courtesy of the Serra Booster Club.

If you need directions to an athletic contest the best source is to go to www.highschoolsports.net.  There is a link on the athletic page of the school's website.--Kevin J. Donahue, CAA kdonahue@serrahs.com

From The Booster Club:
Our 2009-2010 membership drive is now on. You should have received in the mail information on joining the Boosters'. All money raised by the Booster Club goes right back into our athletic programs and benefits all fourteen sports. The Boosters have bought new water polo goals, help fund the crew team's travel expenses to the National Championships in Cincinnati, purchased CCS T-shirts for all varsity teams that qualify for the playoffs and purchase all championship plaques for all levels. These are just a few of the items we have funded. You membership has made all of this possible. We are already receiving requests from the various teams for additional purchases for this year. We need you support to make this happen.

All membership information is online in the Booster Club section. You can print out the membership form (which is available online) and mail it in or you can join online. Thank you for your support!--Joe Wood and Bob Noto, Booster Club Presidents
