Mock Trial Club Students Needed!

After a successful inaugural season, the Junipero Serra Mock Trial team is looking to expand its roster for the 2010-2011 season. If your Padre would like to experience the excitement of working in a courtroom setting, exchanging ideas, working in teams, examining issues and setting goals, please encourage him to join Mock Trial.

By participating as witnesses, attorneys examining and cross-examining these witnesses, attorneys arguing constitutional pre-trial motions with judges, timekeepers and bailiffs, team members develop presentation and speaking skills by studying the hypothetical criminal case and preparing strategies and arguments for trial. Being a member of the Mock Trial team is an important addition to any college application! We will conduct a Mock Trial Information Night on Thursday, April 22 at 5 p.m. in the Library. All students and parents are welcome to attend.

From the Academic Resource Center:

This Saturday, April 17, Parents Education Network will present EDUCATION REVOLUTION 2010! Your Journey from Self-Awareness to Successful Independence at AT&T Park in San Francisco. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Ned Hallowell, ADHD expert and author of "Driven to Distraction." His talk will be followed by 100-plus exhibits, 30-plus workshops and 20-plus fun activities, including the LD journey from early childhood to college and career. Please CLICK HERE for more information and to pre-register online before noon on Friday to skip the lines on Saturday.

Olympic Summer Camp Now Hiring

Junior Counselors must turn 16 by June 15 and have an athletic background to be considered for employment. Ideal candidates should love sports, have fun outgoing personalities and enjoy working with kids. To apply visit: www.OlympicSummerCamp.com.

Student Volunteer Opportunities

Parents – is your son 16 or older?  Is he interested in earning eight FIAT service hours?  If so, he might like to sign up for the Tri-School Habitat for Humanity build being held in San Francisco on Saturday, April 17.  We are only allowed 10 spots, so we will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.  There are three permission slips to sign - two for Habitat for Humanity and one for the Archdiocese of San Francisco.  This event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The event will be held at 52 Whitney Young Circle in San Francisco (94124).  Click here to get more information and access the permission slips.

* BOK Ranch, a therapeutic horseback riding program in Woodside for special needs individuals, is seeking volunteers.  If you are interested, visit www.bokranch.com or contact Volunteer Coordinator Elizabeth Campi by phone (650-283-2519) or e-mail: bokvolunteer@yahoo.com.  Because students help those with disabilities, they receive FIAT service hours for working at BOK Ranch. Other FIAT service opportunities can be found at the CM webpage.
