Dear Serra Families:

The assembly scheduled for Thursday October 28 (Jean Paul Sambutu) has been cancelled. We apologize for the late notice. We will be on a normal Thursday schedule tomorrow.
Thank you,

From the Attendance Office

We have been getting a lot of questions in the front office regarding the attendance that appears on the Progress Reports and Report Cards. FYI, when a student misses class for a school event such as a retreat or a school athletic event, these are recorded as Excused Absences in PCR. This is for internal record-keeping, since teachers need to know if a student was “accounted for” in order to determine whether or not to allow him to make up missed work. This is in no way a negative reflection on the student and his attendance. We need to know why students miss classes, when and where they are. Also, attendance is not recorded on official or unofficial transcripts, so parents do not need to be concerned that colleges will misinterpret attendance information (they won’t see it!) Daily Attendance can be viewed in the PCR Parent Portal under Student Information. Unfortunately, you can not always see daily “ins and outs” since this is more of an overview rather than period-by-period attendance. However, if you see (in PCR) that your son missed school on a particular date and you do not know why, please talk with your son before calling the Attendance Office for clarification.

Bonjour, Paris!

Do you know that your son may choose to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime Easter trip to Paris-Geneva-Nice and Grenoble? In previous years, we have chaperoned our boys to France, Ireland and Italy. All of them have said it was truly the best trip of their lives. For some, it was the highlight of their four years at Serra. Once you read the full details on the trip, I know you'll not only agree but also will want your son to come with us. Maybe you will, too! (Email me at mdowden@serrahs.com and I'll send you a flyer on the trip.) By the way, if your son failed to mention any of this, he probably missed this important detail too: Sign up before November 1 and you will save $200 on the cost of the trip. It's a steal of a deal! Want to know more? We're having a FINAL INFORMATIONAL meeting on this trip on Thursday, OCTOBER 28 at 7 p.m. in room 200A. This is one trip you won't want to miss and won't be repeated for another two or three years. I guarantee it will be wonderful experience for your son and something he'll look back with great fondness for years.  I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night!

Sincerely,

Mary Dowden
