About Serra

"Once a Padre, always a Padre." The spirit behind this statement distinguishes Serra from all other high schools. Serra is a community of parents, teachers, staff and alumni dedicated to providing the best high school experience possible for the young men of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Serra is located in the heart of the Peninsula, between San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Our school is much more than an outstanding Catholic college preparatory for young men. It’s a place where classmates become brothers. Teachers become mentors. Ordinary moments become extraordinary experiences. Each student is valued and knows that he belongs.

Serra offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, which includes a rich diversity of classes and an extensive array of AP and Honors courses. Our campus has undergone major renovation during the past five years and will boast new facilities for athletics, science, art, music and journalism by the 2011-2012 school year. Our AP pass rate is 25 points above the national average at 82.7 percent and 99 percent of our graduates go on to college. Serra’s curriculum ensures that all of our graduates meet UC and CSU requirements.

Serra welcomes families of all faiths. Teachers help students to explore their talents and achieve success in a variety of places—academics, the arts, athletics, clubs and Christian service—all in the context of our core values. Most importantly, Serra teachers model values that inspire our young Padres to be confident men who will make a difference in the 21st century.

“Boys are energetic, creative risk-takers. Serra academics and extracurricular actiities are tailored for them.

Studies show that in a single-gender environment, boys excel academically.

At Serra, boys have a natural advantage because classes are taught using specific strategies that motivate young men to learn.”

- Barry Thornton, Ed.D.
