About Guidance Counseling & Serra's College & Career Center:
Junipero Serra's Guidance Department provides services to meet the academic, college, career, and personal counseling needs of each student. It is the department's goal to provide students at all levels with appropriate academic advising, to supply them with college and career information necessary for effective decision making, and to provide personal counseling as it relates to school performance.
Students are assigned a counselor according to his homeroom. A student may request to work with a counselor other than the one assigned by consulting with the Director of Guidance. Guidance counselors make daily contact with some of their assigned students in the group context of homeroom where important information applicable to every student is presented. Counselors monitor their assigned students' academic performance and initiate individual contact with students as the need arises. Faculty members, staff or parents may refer a young man to his counselor for consultation. Students are encouraged to initiate contact with their counselors as necessary.
Additionally, Junipero Serra operates a College & Career Center to help students with the process of selecting a college and preparing for life after college.
Please feel free to contact your son's counselor, if the need arises. The guidance hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

For students at Serra, Naviance is the central tool for college research and planning. Students are introduced to Naviance during their Freshman year and are given a unique unsername and password. During their son’s Freshman year, parents are also given their own username and password. Over the course of their four years at Serra, students are introduced to a variety of features in Naviance, starting with the basic search tools and culminating in the organization of their college applications during Senior year. Through Naviance, the Counseling Department periodically sends students and parents email Newsletters containing timely and pertinent information. If a student or parent needs assistance with a username/password, please email Mrs. Ghidossi. kghidossi@serrahs.com
