In Les Misérables, Victor Hugo writes, "To love another person is to see the face of God." With this in mind, all Padres are required to perform 80 hours of service during their four years at Serra.
It is impossible to live the Christian life fully without serving those in need. While service must ultimately flow freely from a generous heart, it is a practice that, like others, is best formed when we make of it a habit. Youth is a time of great energy and formation of the patterns and attitudes that will shape one's adulthood. It is our hope that every Serra graduate will be a man who gives of himself to others, and experience is often the greatest teacher.
Jesus did not isolate Himself from His followers. His mission was one of teaching, serving and living among the people. Likewise, Jesus calls us to minister to our neighbors in the everyday passage of life. In this way, we carry out God's message and manifest His love here on earth. We are called not only to preach, but also to serve and minister.
***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR***
Please note that hard-copy Christian Service forms (which can be downloaded below) will not be accepted after Friday, September 19th. Instead, please begin using the new Christian Service Hour Google form, located here (or type bit.ly/cshours into your web browser). You may begin using this link now.
Please also note that students will need to ask for the email address of the supervisor at the agency where volunteer service is completed. An email will be sent to that supervisor for approval that the student completed the hours he listed in the google form. This email approval will take the place of a signature.
Ms. Schroeder in Campus Ministry will stop by all 28 Theology classes over the next few weeks to present the new system. For sophomores who don't have a Theology class during the Fall 2014 semester, you will learn about this new system in your Health/P.E. class.
Students are required to submit a different form for each agency/organization served. The form must contain the signature of a supervisor from the organization, as well as initials next to the number of hours served. A parent's signature is also required.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact Jackie Schroeder
