Track Season Ends

Serra's athletes competed well in the Central Coast Section Track and Field Championships at Gilroy High School with Ben Parodi (Shot Put) and Nate Harvey (100 Meters) both recording personal bests. Harvey, a senior headed to UC Santa Barbara, closed out his high school career with a 10.77 wind aided time in the 100 meters. The time was good for a fourth place finish. The top three go onto the CIF State Meet. Ben Parodi, a junior, took seventh in the shot put on a judges decision with his personal best heave of 51' 2". In the 110 High Hurdles junior Juan Rodriguez clocked a time of 15.31 and a sixth place finish. Serra's 4x100 meter relay team of DonAndre' Clark, Chad Baur, Rodriguez and Harvey took fifth place with a time of 42.96.
Track Qualifies For Finals

Senior Nate Harvey led the way as the Padre Track and Field Team qualified three individuals and a relay team for the CCS Track and Field Championships next Friday. The Serra 4x100 Meter Relay team won heat 2 of the trials with a time of 43.57 which automatically moved them onto Friday's championships. Harvey then posted the fourth best time in the trials in the 100 meters advancing him to the finals. Next up was Juan Rodriguez who qualified in the 110 High Hurdles with a time of 15.31. Action then turned to the field events where Ben Parodi's heave in the shot put of 50'6" sent him to Friday's showdown.
Track Takes Fourth

Juniors Juan Rodriguez and Ben Parodi took home the gold at the WCAL Track and Field Championships as the Padres finished in fourth place in the varsity comeptition. Rodriguez won the 110 Meter High Hurdles with a time of 15.30 and Parodi took the shot put title with a heave of 49' 4". Rodriguez also picked up points for Serra in the 300 Meter Hurdles with a sixth place finish (44.15) and ran a leg on the 4 x 100 meter relay team which finished second with a time of 42.51. The other legs of the 4 x 100 meter relay were run by DonAndre' Clark, Chad Baur and Nate Harvey. Other top three finishers for Serra were Nate Harvey in the 100 Meters (10.94), Luke Longinotti in the shot put (43' 7") and Dalyn Pacheco in the high jump (6'0").

Track Takes 2nd at Top 7

Serra hosted their annual Top 7 Invitational Track and Field Invitational on Saturday hosting teams from throughout the Bay Area. The Padres, despite missing several key athlete because of injuries, finished in second place in the varsity competition and won the frosh/soph division. Nate Harvey placed second in the 100 meter (11.25) with sophomore Chad Baur (11.30) right behind him in third place. Ben Parodi took the gold in the shot put with a heave of 50'6". Also scoring points in the shot were Peter Torre (5th - 42'1"), Kyle Rudolph (6th - 41'6 3/4") and Sean McTaggart (7th - 40' 11"). Andrew Gaddis took sixth in the 1600 clocking in at 4:36.17 while Juan Rodriguez finished third in the 110 high hurdles (16.22. In the long jump Andrew Nunes was a second place finisher (20'2") and Devin Muprhy picked up points for the Padres in fourth place (19'10"). Peter Torre contributed to Serra's point total of 52 varsity points with his toss of 116'8 1/2" in the discus and a seventh place finish. Track Sprints To Victory

The Padre track team downed the visiting Monarchs of Archbishop Mitty 71 to 64 on Wednesday afternoon. Erich Wilson was a triple winner in the 100, 200 and long jump and also was on the winning 4x100 meter relay team. Nate Harvey took second in both the 100 and 200. All of the Padres stepped up as some key performers were nursing injuries and were unable to participate. A key performance by Carsten Stann in the 3200 meter race helped clinch the win. The coaching staff was weighing their options as the meet was winding down and called upon Stann at the last minute to run in the race. Wilson Takes 7th

Sophomore sprinter Erich Wilson competed against the best the state and the west coast had to offer on Saturday and came away with a seventh place finish at the Arcadia Inviational. The Arcadia is the elite track and field meet for high school athletes and you have to have top qualifying marks to be invited. After qualifying in the preliminaries, Wilson clocked in at 10.93 in the finals. The 4x100 relay team also made it to the finals but were disqualified for an exchange zone violation during the race.

It is one of the most prestigious track venues on the west coast and the Padre 4x100 meter relay team came to play at the Arcadia Invitational. Seeded in lane five in heat three of the preliminaries this morning, the Padre speedsters crossed the finish line first in their heat in a time of 42.75 qualifying for tonights finals. Serra tied for the fourth fastest time in the trials out of fifty one schools competing. At last nights competition, junior high jumper Dalyn Pacheco took thirteenth place with a leap of 6'1".

The Stanford Invitational is one of the elite high school track meets of the seaon attracting the top athletes on the West Coast. The Padres had some outstanding performances against the best. The 4x100 meter relay team took third place with a time of 42.30. Sophomore sprinter Erich Wilson finished in eighth place in the 100 meters in a time of 10.91. Junior Dalyn Pacheco placed thirteenth in the triple jump with a mark of 41' 3.75" and his leap of 6' 4" was good enough for a fifth place finish in the high jump.
Balance Paces Track

It was a blustery day on Freitas Field as the Serra track team took on Sacred Heart Cathedral. Despite the cold and windy conditions, the Padre harriers were in their comfort zone as they ran and jumped their way to a 77-32 dual meet win over visiting Sacred Heart Cathedral. Ben Parodi was a double winner in the shot (42' 4.5") and discus (126' 3") and Dalyn Pacheco also scored a double in the high jump (6'2") and the triple jump (42' 4 1/2"). Nate Harvey won the 100 meters (11.15 and anchored the victorious 4x100 meter relay (42.92). Carsten Stann ran a 4:47.5 winning the 1600 meters and teammate Ford Milligan provided a sweep in the distances with a winning time of 10:44 in the 3200. Erich Wilson's 22.67 in the 200 meters and DonAndre Clark's second place time of 11.38 in the 100 meters showed the Padres dominance in the sprints.

The Padre track team sprinted to a second place finish at the St. Francis Invitational track meet on Saturday. Juan Rodriguez won the gold in he 110 meter high hurdles in a time of 15.48. Sophomore Erich Wilson blazed home to a first place finish in the 100 meters breaking the tape at 11.06 with fellow soph Chad Baur taking fourth at 11.42. The 4x100 meter relay was finally healthy and blew away the highly competitive field recording a first place finish with a time of 42.78. The relay team's lead runner was Wilson, who handed the baton to DonAndre' Clark, then to Baur and Nate Harvey handled the anchor leg for the Padres. Devin Murphy scored points for the Padres with a 20'1" leap in the long jump which was good for a fifth place finish. The Padres finished tied for second in the varsity team scoring.
In the frosh/soph division, Luke Longinotti was a double winner in the discus and shot put with marks of 113'9" and 50'9". Daniel Godfrey took third in the discus with a throw of 105'9".

Track Out Duals Riordan
The Padre track teams defeated Riordan 73-45 on Wednesday afternoon. Ben Parodi and Luke Longinotti, once again, were double winners in the throwing events. Dominic Lavezzo won the 400m and paced both frosh/soph relays to wins. Andrew Nunes was the other winner in multiple events, with his efforts in the 300m hurdles and the long jump.
The track teams are in action Friday and Saturday with meets at West Valley College, St. Francis and Dublin High School.
Track Dominates The Warriors

The Padre varsity and frosh soph track teams dominated Valley Christian on Wednesday in San Jose in the WCAL opener. The Warriors have a small squad and the Padres are missing some key athletes who are still competing in winter sport playoffs but Serra was still able to easily coast to the dual meet victory.
Track Returns Sprint and Jump Talent
Coach Jim Marheineke will kick off the 2010 track and field season on Monday, February 1st, the first official day of practice. The strength of the team this year will be the sprints and jumps. Last year the Padres sent the 4x100 meter relay team and sophomore high jumper Daylan Pacheco to the CIF State Meet. The 4x100 relay returns three of the four members from the state qualifiers and are looking to repeat. Graduation losses included another State qualified and school pole vault record holder Chris Bet.
