Father Serra Heritage Society

In September 1944, Serra High School opened its doors with a faculty of five and a student body of 86 freshmen and sophomores. Established by Archbishop Mitty as the Archdiocesan high school of San Mateo County, it was named in honor of Padre Junípero Serra, the Apostle of California, and was the first Catholic high school west of the Mississippi to be staffed entirely by diocesan priests. Today, Serra's success in academics, extracurricular activities and spiritual growth is renowned.

Named after our patron Saint, the Father Serra Heritage Society is an ensemble of generous donors from our school community who have designated an estate gift to Serra High School. In total, millions of dollars have been raised for Serra’s endowment and capital projects as a direct result of Heritage Society gifts. Gifts can be directed to any fund a donor wishes. Members of the Heritage Society believe in quality education, leadership and innovation. They believe that a Serra education is among the best in the nation.

In appreciation for making a planned gift to Serra, we pay special tribute to our donors by inviting them to join the Father Serra Heritage Society. Members of the Father Serra Heritage Society are honored in every issue of Traditions magazine, are invited to special events, and receive complimentary passes to campus activities.

Bequests

A bequest to Serra requires a relatively simple addition to your existing will, which is known as a codicil. Your attorney can draft the proper legal document to be added to your Will. To review your options, please contact Serra’s Advancement Office at 650.573.9935. We have assembled a team of experts in their fields who can help you help Serra.

Types of Bequests

Bequests can help Serra High School meet ongoing needs, such as faculty development or program improvements, or they can be designated for the General Endowment Fund. Either way, bequests are a special investment in a Serra education.
