Junipero Serra High School is a Catholic college preparatory for boys. To assist with providing leadership in the ongoing development, evaluation and administration of the entire academic program for the purpose of ensuring Junípero Serra students an outstanding college preparatory education in the context of Serra’s Catholic mission.

The Dean of Studies reports to the Assistant Principal, Academics and supervises teaching personnel and students. This position is a twelve-month contract, renewable annually at the discretion of the Principal. 


  • Master’s Degree (recommended).
  • California Teacher’s and/or Administrative Credential.
  • Five years experience in secondary teaching and/or administration.
  • Demonstrated adherence to and support of the Catholic Mission of the school. 
  • Such alternative or additional qualifications as may be deemed appropriate.


  • Assists in the development, evaluation and administration of the instructional program such as participating in Academic Council,  managing honor code violations, creating the master schedule and AP test administration.
  • Oversees and coordinates the Student Information Systems including services provided through the SIS such as grading, scheduling, generating reports, and managing communications to the community.
  • Coordinates and assists the day-to-day academic operations of the school day such as scheduling, field trips and technology.
  • Assists in the notification and conferences of students, teachers, parents and counselors to address academic issues.
  • Assists in the coordination of academic programs and events. 
  • Assists in staff development/in-service programs for faculty.
  • Assists in the recruitment and interview process for teachers.
  • Assists in the supervision and evaluation of teaching personnel.
  • Coordinates and oversees teacher substitution.
  • Assists in the ongoing WASC accreditation process.
  • Oversees and coordinates educational technology with a focus on professional development and classroom technology use.
  • Performs such related tasks as may from time to time be assigned.
