Congratulations to Serra senior Chris Mok, who was one of 882 students accepted into Duke University's Early Decision program. Chris plans to study economics at Duke. He applied to seven other colleges but by applying to Duke's Early Decision program, Chris indicated that Duke is his first choice and promised to automatically commit to enroll at the university if admitted.
Academics aside, Chris said it is the basketball, Duke's beautiful campus, the traditional college experience and the green North Carolina landscape that he is most excited to experience during his time at Duke. Chris said his four years at Serra have been instrumental in his success. He noted that the unique brotherhood at Serra helped him on a social level to climb out of his shell and the honors courses and overall academic offerings continue to challenge him mentally. Chris can also be found on the mat during the winter months, wrestling for Serra's varsity team.
"I came here from Borel Middle School and I was very shy my freshman year. Serra helped me to gain the confidence to meet new people and feel comfortable. The academic rigor has always kept me focused."
Chris and his future classmates accepted through Duke's Early Decision program will represent 51 percent of next fall's incoming class of 1,720 students. We are proud of Chris' accomplishments at Serra and wish him well at Duke this coming fall.
