Congratulations to one of three Class of 2020 valedictorians, Sriyash Erra, who will begin his college career in beautiful Hanover, New Hampshire, at the revered Dartmouth College. He plans to study economics.
Sri has been busy during high school years, a qualifying member of the varsity tennis team all four years, as a sophomore, he was named the doubles MVP, and as a junior, he was a blanket award winner, WCAL 2nd team.
A member of the National Honor Society, Sri was on the executive board senior year, a co-tutor chair and the historian. He was a member of the Trivia Club all four years and the Bowling Club freshman through junior year. A life member of the California Scholarship Federation, Sri is also a National Merit Commended Scholar and an AP Scholar with distinction.
Exploring interests, trying new things and setting attainable goals helped Sri carve out a niche all his own. As varsity basketball team manager, Sri blended his skills -- his intense love of the game with his need for concrete data -- and created a program that he would use for team reporting for two years. He continued to excel in new areas, uniting intellect with passion.
In fact, Sri said that his greatest accomplishment to date was "helping the basketball program in whatever way I could -- whether it was by creating a program to take stats, preparing film for Coach Rapp, or being responsible for team shooting shirts and other equipment during games."
It's no wonder, Sri's favorite Serra memory took place at the Jungle Game in 2019. "I will always remember sitting at the table in the gym, watching my teammates complete a 20-point comeback."
With an early acceptance to Dartmouth, Sri believes that it was his Serra community that believed in him when at times he didn't believe in himself.
"Serra has redefined my view of the community," he said. "It has taught me that a true community is a community where everyone has each other's backs. I believe this has contributed greatly to my confidence."
To his parents, Sri is incredibly grateful.
"I would like to thank my parents for their great support over the last four years. I want to give a special thanks to my mom for the sacrifices she has made over the last four years. Lastly, I want to thank my Padre brothers for making the last four years the best four years of my young life."
Best of luck to you, Sri, as you continue to achieve the highest honors! We are all so proud of you! Dartmouth is lucky to have you there!
