Class of 2023 Attends Freshman Welcome Retreat
The newest Padres in the Class of 2023 attended the Freshman Welcome Retreat on Saturday. Excitement filled the air as students, parents and a few siblings bonded and learned about the Serra community. The theme of the retreat was Siempre Adelante (always forward). The day was led by members of the Campus Ministry Encounter Leadership Team, who were assisted by Serra's Big Brothers.

"This weekend, we welcomed our newest Padres to Serra," said Director of Admissions Julie Behn. "It was exciting to see new friendships developing, as well as the demonstration of inclusion, respect, compassion and integrity. We look forward to the contributions that our newest students will make to our community."

After attending the Encounter Team's session on brotherhood and listening to theology teacher Ed Taylor's "What it Means to be a Padre" speech, students joined their parents in the gym for a meaningful prayer service led by Fr. Joe Bradley '73.

"We also took the boys on a pilgrimage through campus to learn about St. Serra and the meaning of 'siempre adelante,'" noted Director of Campus Ministry Billy Byrnes. "They learned some new prayers that reflect who we are as a community. We are always pushing ahead, striving and achieving. We prayed together and the parents blessed their sons during the prayer service. The new families were welcomed into the Serra community, and the freshmen are ready to go!"
