Serra senior and Saint Matthew's Episcopal alumnus Michael Churich will attend UCLA next year. Michael is an honor student who excels in both academics and athletics. He carries a challenging and diverse course load this year, including AP calculus, AP physics and Drama I.
Michael is a recruited athlete and will play football for the Bruins. The All-League tight end and defensive end also considered Cal and Cornell during his recruitment. Michael was drawn to UCLA for its exceptional academic reputation and location in Westwood. He plans to study economics at the number one-ranked public university in the nation, per US News and World Report. Michael was also impressed with the coaching staff, headlined by former 49er Head Coach Chip Kelly, and the opportunity to play with former Serra teammate 'Atonio Mafi '18, who started as a true freshman last year for the Bruins. Beyond football, Michael is also a thrower on the track and field team.
"My experience at Serra has been amazing, and I have enjoyed every second of it. The academics and athletics have definitely prepared me for what's to come in college. I thank Serra for helping me become a better man and I am grateful for all who have helped me along the way."
We are proud of Michael's accomplishments here at Serra, and we wish him well at UCLA. We are pleased to feature him as one of the outstanding students in our Class of 2019.
