Serra senior Pranav Kalra will attend UC Berkeley next year after also considering acceptances from UCLA, UCSD, Cal Poly, and the honors programs of Purdue and UC Irvine. Kalra, an alumnus of Bowditch middle school, is an excellent student who is enrolled in AP literature, AP physics, AP government and AP computer science. He is set to study mechanical engineering. Well-known for its top-notch academics, Berkeley had an acceptance rate of just 15 percent last year.
Kalra achieved academic excellence at Serra and beyond, highlighted by perfect scores on the ACT Reading section and SAT Physics test. He is a Bausch and Lomb Science Award-winner who also took multi-variable calculus at the College of San Mateo. Kalra earned a spot on the Principal's List every semester of his high school career. Beyond his studies, he served as a captain for Serra's Robotics Team, which advanced to the national championships this year. He also was an attorney for the Serra Mock Trial Team and was honored as one of the 10 finalists for valedictorian.
"Serra's small atmosphere allowed me to personally grow in clubs and lead my peers throughout my four years," Kalra said. "Whether it was debating our case in the courtroom for Mock Trial, or discussing schematics in the shop for robotics, I was always pushed to pursue my best effort."
