Combining a mix of length, athleticism and savvy, Serra's varsity basketball team has been on to start the season. Heading into a big contest against Riordan last night (Click here for pics). Serra was 10-2 overall with impressive showings against Burlingame, Valley Christian and Saint Francis on the year. In front of a high-energy crowd in Morton Family Gymnasium, Serra jumped out early in the first quarter, Riordan then took the lead until the fourth quarter, when the Padres answered back with a 19-2 runs and closed out the game 67-64.
Serra is now 3-0 in the WCAL and is alone in first place. The Padres were led by Parker McDonald's 19 points, Cade Rees' 10 rebounds and Patrick Simon's 13 big points off the bench. Serra heads to The City for its remaining contests this week, facing Saint Ignatius on Thursday and Sacred Heart Cathedral on Saturday.
