International Student Program Homestay

When asked what it felt like to be a student at Serra High School and to be part of a host family so many miles away from the home in which I grew up in, I can respond by saying that it felt like I never left home in the first place."

We believe that a quality international program is one that places our international students in the homes of Serra families, where they will have the support and warmth that only a family environment can provide.

The international student and the Serra family will embark on an unparalleled, enriching experience . . . one that will create relationships that will last a lifetime. Host families will encourage the continued use of English skills, provide academic and social guidance, and generally support the student as he is immersed into the American culture. International students will be provided with all meals and a bedroom in the family home. The host family will receive an annual stipend, which is covered in the cost of tuition.

Homestay stipend includes:

  • A safe, loving Serra family environment
  • Students' own room with study and storage space
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Transportation to and from school
  • Wifi access
  • Full English immersion
  • Annual Stipend for host family: $15,000

Homestay selection process:

  • International staff recruits local Serra families
  • Families apply, are screened and background checked
  • International staff visits family home
  • Homestay family and student fill out questionnaire to match interests
