Serra Playmaker Hassan Mahasin #3 Commits to San Diego State University

It's off to San Diego State University next fall for Hassan Mahasin, Serra's legendary football playmaker known as the Missile. Mahasin announced his plans on social media tonight that he will play for the Aztecs next fall.

In a noontime interview today, Mahasin said he was very excited to be an Aztec and that the Aztec coaching staff was one of the main reasons he chose San Diego.

"The coaching staff showed loyalty throughout my whole recruiting process and the offense they have is best suited for me and they're winning right now - they're the number one team in the Mountain West," Mahasin said. "Plus they're getting a new stadium next year and they play top teams," he added.

Mahasin is fond of the Serra football program that helped propel a successful football career and said Varsity Head Coach Walsh has played a pivotal role in his success and growth as an athlete and a man.

"Coach Walsh has been there ever since I was in eighth grade and was one of the greatest reasons why I came to Serra. I just loved the way he coached players and got them ready to go out there every Saturday and Friday night to win games. He shows you how to be a man and what it means to play for each other and respect the brotherhood."

Faith also helped round out Mahasin's experience, he said.

"Faith has played a huge role in my four years at Serra, also in football, where we have chapel before every game. Speaking in front of your brothers and letting out whatever you feel and learning what we could do to improve was a big experience. It just helped my varsity career and also helped us so much to win games and build team chemistry."

Mahasin has been a force on the Serra Padres Varsity team, not just as a playmaker averaging four touchdowns a game but also in his leadership.

Sadly, Mahasin tore his ACL sometime during Serra's second WCAL game against Bellarmine Preparatory on October 2 . It was announced to the Serra Padres in the beginning of the third quarter of that game that Mahasin would be out for the season.

Today's announcement comes just six days after Mahassan' injury was announced. But he is more motivated than ever to get back on the field.

"My never give up mentality has applied to my whole life. If you never give up you have no regrets and you'll always know you went 100 percent at the end of the day," he said.

When he gets to San Diego, he said he hopes to play as a true freshman.

"I hope to make the team better and make offense more explosive and showcase my abilities," he said.

Mahasin said his family has been his guiding light throughout his football career.

"My family has been great and supported my football journey since I was a kid. I cannot remember a game that I have played in where my entire family wasn't there to support me and the biggest support I received from everyone was after the last game when I got injured, everyone was there to support me."

Today's announcement happens to come on Mahasin's mom, Monique's birthday.

Congratulations, Hassan! Your Padre Family is so proud of you and your incredible talent and accomplishments! Go Padres!
