Serra is seeking a Wellness Counselor - Mission and Brotherhood Coordinator for the 2022-23 school year. This is a new position at Serra that will support student mental health and wellness of the students and support school programming that helps create a culture reflective of the Padre Brotherhood values of respect, integrity, inclusion and compassion.

The Wellness Counselor - Mission and Brotherhood Coordinator will work in a team with the Counseling Department to collaborate and provide short-term intervention to students for social, emotional, or crisis events that may impact their behavior or physical and mental well-being. This is done in a safe, confidential, non-judgmental, and supportive environment. The position will serve as a liaison between students, their families, school staff, and the community. The position will work directly with students who experience difficulties in educational achievement due to social/emotional adjustment and/or attendance issues and strive to ensure equity and access for all students.

The Wellness Counselor - Mission and Brotherhood Coordinator will have a primary responsibility in helping to foster a culture and climate at Serra rooted in the mission and reflective of Padre values - respect, integrity, compassion and inclusion - through leadership in the Mission and Brotherhood program. Working with an interdisciplinary team, the position develops programming that educates students in strategies, leadership, and moral decision-making that supports student skill development and ownership in developing “upstanding” behavior.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide social, emotional and mental wellness support for students through education, support, and crisis intervention
    • Participates in planning and delivery of mental health and wellness related programming to students and parents
    • Meets with students for crisis intervention, counseling, and support services
    • Collaborates with faculty, staff and administration to coordinate support of individual students
    • Consults with outside mental health providers to coordinate student support
    • Coordinates and facilitates regular peer support groups
    • Conduct structured, goal-oriented individual and group counseling sessions in response to the emotional and educational needs of assigned students
    • Provides appropriate referrals for students in need of long-term mental health resources
    • Collaborates and supports the mental health section of the PE/Health curriculum
       
  • Coordinates the Mission and Brotherhood curriculum and programming in support of developing a culture the fosters a brotherhood of respect, integrity, inclusion and compassion
    • Collaborates with Campus Ministry/Mission and Brotherhood to develop year long theme to be implemented in advisories
    • Convenes meetings with the Mission and Brotherhood Team to plan the Wellness days, programs and formation events for the community (employee, student & parent)
    • Provides training and resources for Mission and Brotherhood adult and student leaders
    • Leads student advisory days and Wellness Wednesdays/events
    • Coordinates large and small group discussions to practice moral decision-making with the students to help build character and to promote “upstanding” behavior
    • Coordinates speakers for formation events

Qualifications:

  • A Masters’ degree in Counseling or Psychology is required, CA Licensed Ph.D., PsyD, MFT, or LCSW required
  • Three years of experience in counseling at the high school level and/or personal counseling desired
  • Preference for a candidate who demonstrates success working with adolescent boys of diversity, equity, and inclusion best practice
  • Have strong organizational and leadership skills, as well as written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality and integrity
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others
  • Have personal qualities of initiative, optimism, and flexibility
  • Proficient in digital platforms and systems data management

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
