What it Means to Be a Padre

Life as a member of the Padre community is one that fosters camaraderie and an authentic sense of belonging—the foundation of genuine and lasting friendships.

Serra celebrates the unique talents and interests that each student brings to our diverse campus community. In addition to an amazing array of academic courses, we offer a wide range of extracurricular opportunities for Padres to explore interests and talents, discover their passions and find their direction in life.

At Serra, a Padre is encouraged to fully engage in campus life and always to be himself— to take chances, to ask questions, to express his ideas and to explore new endeavors in his expanding world. A Padre never stands alone; he will be known and he will belong.

That’s Padre life.

Serra provided me with academic opportunities to challenge myself. The many activities and clubs allowed me to develop leadership skills and learn about the fulfillment that comes from serving others."

From the first day he steps on campus freshman year to the moment he tosses his graduation cap in celebration, the Padre brotherhood is a lived experience.

The definition of what it means to be a Padre brother is both inspirational and aspirational; it’s the cornerstone of the inclusive culture that is the hallmark of Serra.

The Serra Brotherhood is a bond shared among Padres, past and present, based on the values of respect, integrity, inclusion and compassion. Padre Brothers hold themselves and each other accountable to these values every day, as Jesus modeled in his own life. Following this example,

  • a Padre is a man of respect, treating others with love and kindness.
  • a Padre is a man of integrity, acting with honesty and fairness, seeking truth.
  • a Padre is a man of inclusion, embracing diversity and the gifts of others.
  • a Padre is a man of compassion, compelled to help others, especially those most in need.
