Serra Clubs and Organizations

The Anglers' Club is a friendly community of fishing enthusiasts dedicated to sharing our passion for the sport. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just starting out, all are welcome. Our club offers both weekend and after-school outings to local fishing spots and hands-on skills workshops such as fly tying, casting and making lures. We enjoy hosting fun events where students can connect with fellow members. Join us for thrilling fishing adventures, valuable tips and lasting friendships as we celebrate the joy of fishing together.

The AV Club is devoted to technical theater, especially in the areas of professional sound and lighting design and operation. Meetings are scheduled after school and during club days as needed.

Students in the Barbecue Club create teams of three to six teammates who share a barbecue kept in a storage facility on campus. Barbecue Club cook events are held on campus after school once or twice per month. The club decides on what to cook at each event and then competes to see who can grill the most delicious food.

The basketball club meets once per month during the lunch period. They host 3-on-3 tournaments, March Madness pool and attend Serra basketball games.

Come bowling with us at Bel Mateo Bowl. Whether you are a seasoned bowler or just looking to try something new, it's all about camaraderie and friendly competition.

The Chess and Classic Games Club will meet for both “casual” friendly play as well as for tournament play! Our aim is to meet one to two times per month. Additionally, we will add MTG for casual play for interested duelers! Finally, players interested in D&D are also invited to sign up as there will be meeting times set up for this as well.

The Christian Service and Justice Club helps plan the fall and spring justice projects. We also help coordinate Christian Service opportunities for all students. We will become advocates for those who do not have a voice in our community and world.

Come learn how to create your own apps, games and websites, no coding experience necessary. We will help you develop problem-solving skills and boost creativity and critical thinking. This club will open doors to lucrative job opportunities.

The Creative Writing Club is one of Serra’s longest-running clubs, and we welcome new members at all times during the year!

Club activities include: 

• the bi-monthly publication of 451 Press, our online magazine and platform for student work.
• exploring new forms and genres of creative writing and storytelling. 
• discovering new digital platforms for sharing creative work. 
• the occasional field trip to hear or meet other writers!

Club members regularly share their drafts with one another for constructive feedback to prepare. NO STRESS! The club generally meets once every few weeks, but we meet more often when preparing a new issue of 451Press for publication.

The Drumline is perfect for students wanting to learn the drums and improve their skills.  While most of the students in the drumline are in one of our bands here at Serra, it is not required that all members be in band. We will teach snare, bass drums, quads and cymbals while putting together drum cadences that are sure to shake the halls during rally days and football games.  

Rehearsals are during club days and are sometimes held before school on Fridays or late start days. Come join us!

Ethics Bowl is a collaborative competition where students discuss real-life ethical issues, analyze complex cases and respond to questions from opposing teams and judges.

The Fantasy Sports Club is where we, the spectators, get to become the coach, general manager and expert prognosticator during the upcoming sports seasons. Draft a fantasy team during the NFL season, then manage your roster and matchups throughout the year. Join in the Pigskin Pick'em and Eliminator contests each week of the NFL season, or channel your picking prowess during the College Bowl season and NFL Playoffs. Finally, finish off the year with our annual March Madness Bracket Challenge. The club is open to all students and contests are free to join, with gift cards awarded to the winners of each of our contests.

If you’re interested in planes, helicopters or any other type of aviation, this is the club for you. Flight simulators, guest speakers and other aviation-related events are all activities organized by members for the club.

Students actively experience the excitement of a courtroom setting, where they work in teams, exchange ideas, set goals and examine issues. By studying hypothetical cases and preparing strategies and arguments for trial, students also improve their presentation skills.

Welcome to The Padres Barbell Club! Our Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting program is designed to prepare athletes for the sport of weightlifting in a safe and effective training system crafted to improve technique and build strength.

We will focus on the snatch and clean and jerk, but the training will not be limited to those two lifts. We also offer powerlifting. This is a club where we develop and teach the basics of weightlifting in a long-term athletic development format that emphasizes movement competency and overall fitness. We help meet strength goals and create opportunities to build new and healthy relationships through fitness. All are welcome!

Under the direct supervision of Serra's Certified Athletic Trainer and team physician, students will learn and apply basic first aid and injury prevention skills, hydration management of athletes, basic anatomy and injury assessment, as well as leadership, time management skills and professionalism.

The Stocks and Economics Club gives members a space to develop useful investing skills by competing against friends online in a fun, accurate and interactive stock market game.

The Tri-School Choir has a long-standing tradition here at Serra. The group was formed by combining the Serra Men’s Choir, Mercy Choir and Notre Dame Belmont Choir. Any singers from Serra, Mercy and NDB who want to join are welcome.

We will be singing in four to five concerts throughout the year, including the Christmas Concert at Serra, Mercy and NDB, the Spring Concert at Serra, Mercy and NDB, our trip to Hawaii over Easter break, a music festival in May and a Catholic school choral festival in January. 

An attendance policy will be enforced for rehearsals. Members may join for the fall and/or spring semester.

Play at lunch on B-Days. We also play starting at 10:30 a.m. on office hours and club days. Meet on the football field. We toss the disc around and then we choose teams and get started.

The Video Game Club gives Padre gamers of all levels a fun and exciting social atmosphere to compete during tournaments or open play, share their skills and socialize with other gamers.

The mission of our club is to improve and support Padres' physical and mental fitness. Dancing can boost energy levels, improve self-image and gain confidence to maintain quality of life. Our meetings will be held in the gym during the club hours designated by the school. Get ready to dance the stress away and have fun with us!

Serra's Big Brother program helps younger Padres explore the meaning and expectations of brotherhood.

Meeting regularly to build trusting and respectful relationships, this peer-led group provides Padres a safe space where he can discuss sensitive situations and issues in his life.

The Block Club is the oldest student organization at Junípero Serra High School. It is a leadership and service organization, which is made up of those students who have performed at the highest level in academics, athletics, the arts, leadership, service and/or student activities.

The members of the Block Club are those students who step forward and extend themselves in roles of leadership and service to the Junípero Serra High School community.

The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) recognizes our top academic students.

CSF membership signifies a commitment to academic excellence and service and demonstrates a student's ability to excel in challenging coursework. Membership in CSF is for students who meet eligibility requirements.

Seniors may achieve Life Membership depending on their duration in CSF.

The Close Up Foundation gives students an opportunity to explore U.S. government firsthand through an immersive, week-long program in Washington, D.C. Participants visit historic sites, meet with lawmakers and take part in discussions and workshops that build civic understanding and leadership skills. It’s a hands-on way for Padres to engage with current issues and see how democracy works up close.

The International Thespian Society is an honor society for theatre students designed to honor student achievement in the theatre arts.

The society provides opportunities for leadership, networking and participation in regional and national theater events, helping students deepen their appreciation and experience in the performing arts.

Mu Theta Alpha, the high school mathematics honor society, recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding achievement and enthusiasm in mathematics. 

Founded to celebrate academic excellence in the field, the society encourages participation in competitions, collaborative problem-solving and math-related service activities.

The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is a program for high school students that recognizes outstanding ability and interest in the visual arts.

Established by the National Art Education Association, it promotes artistic scholarship, creativity, character and service through activities like community projects and art shows.

Each year, students engage in an art museum tour and visit. Students must be enrolled in at least two art classes in order to apply for membership.

The National Business Honor Society, governed by the National Business Education Association (NBEA) is an academic recognition organization specifically for students who have taken (or are currently enrolled in) 3 business-focused classes at Serra. Students must meet minimum grade/GPA requirements in both the business classes and overall school curriculum. 

The organization exists to:

• help promote and recognize academic achievement in business education at the secondary level.
• foster and recognize leadership skills and character development.
• help members grow ethically and socially by promoting and encouraging an interest in business.
• encourage member involvement in service learning initiatives.

The National English Honor Society, founded by the National Council of Teachers of English, recognizes students who have felt the power of the language arts, the thrill of great writing and the excitement of language studies.

Students can engage in invaluable experiences of promoting literacy and serving society, while honoring exceptional and diverse achievements in the English language arts and related subjects.

The National French Honor Society, founded by the American Association of Teachers of French, recognizes students who excel in French language study. Members are honored for academic achievement, leadership and promoting French culture. 

Through cultural activities, community service and school events, students deepen their appreciation for Francophone traditions while fostering a supportive language community.

The National Honor Society (NHS) was founded in 1921 to inspire a love of learning, encourage service to others, strengthen leadership skills and help students build strong personal character.

The NHS honors the students at Junipero Serra High School who epitomize its four pillars: Character, Scholarship, Leadership and Service.

The Science National Honor Society recognizes high-achieving students who excel in science and are committed to scientific learning.

All applicants must have an unweighted 3.5 GPA at the time of application that is also maintained throughout membership. 

• All sophomore applicants must have passed honors biology and be currently enrolled in honors chemistry or higher.
• All junior applicants must have passed one honors science course in their freshman or sophomore year and be currently enrolled in an honors science course. 
• All senior applicants must be enrolled in an honors science course.

Tri-M Music Honor Society is a national musical honor society that recognizes students for their leadership in the musical field.

The mission of Serra's chapter is to expand our music program outside the walls of Serra High School.  For some musicians, this means attending Padre Previews to speak about our music program or play music in the backyard while people are mingling. For others,  it means raising money for families in need around Christmas time or volunteering when we host other schools for our Choral Festival. 

All members of the Tri-M club must go through an induction ceremony where they perform a short piece in front of a live audience in the band room. 

Joining this prestigious national society looks great on college applications and it gives the students opportunities to give back to their community and support their program.

The Asian Student Alliance provides a space for students to explore and celebrate the diverse cultures and identities found throughout Asia. Rooted in dialogue, cultural appreciation and community building, ASA aims to uplift Asian voices and share their stories with the broader Serra community. All students are welcome to join and learn in a respectful and inclusive environment!

The Black Student Union serves as a catalyst for meaningful conversations surrounding race, identity and belonging. 

It was created to inspire, uplift and create lasting connections that extend far beyond the classroom. One of the most important aspects of the BSU is that all students of any race, gender and religion are welcome to join.

The group, which identifies as a Catholic community cohort, holds meetings where they dive into deep concepts and listen to each other’s perspectives in a safe space free from judgment.

The Filipino American Student Alliance is a welcoming community that celebrates traditions, history and cultural identity of the Filipino people. FASA provides space to learn, connect and honor the values of family, faith and resilience that are the foundation of Filipino culture. Whether you identify as Filipino or simply want to learn more, we encourage you to be a part of this vibrant community.

Latinos Unidos is a space open to everyone to celebrate and share the rich diversity of Latin America through the formation of an inclusive and enriching community. 

Latinos Unidos welcomes everyone regardless of your experience with the Spanish language or history with Latin America. We highly encourage anyone who wants to learn more about the tapestry of our cultures to join us.

The Polynesian Student Union uplifts the heritage, stories and cultural pride of the Polynesian islands and their diverse cultural traditions. With a strong foundation in faith, family and unity, PSU strives to build a supportive space for cultural expression and shared learning. Students of all backgrounds are invited to join, listen and grow in community, in hopes of creating a home away from home.
