Recent Padre Alumnus Ian Napetian '21 Covers National Football for TCU

Recent Serra graduate Ian Napetian '21, who attends Texas Christian University, hit the road with the team as a sports reporter, covering the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl in Scottsdale, Arizona, and then to Los Angeles for the championships.

Napetian said at the Fiesta Bowl, he worked alongside other members of the media and soaked in the experience. For the game, he was granted field access and press box access, where he sat for the game and put together a halftime report summarizing the first half.

After TCU beat Michigan, he then traveled to Los Angeles, CA to cover the National Championship where they faced off against Georgia. Leading up to the game, he interviewed TCU's Max Duggan, Quentin Johnston, Dee Winters, Steve Avila, Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, and Johnny Hodges. From Georgia, he had the opportunity to interview quarterback Stetson Bennett.

"It was absolutely incredible. It was the first time that I really felt that I was doing what I want to pursue as a career. If someone told me that in my sophomore year I would be able to cover a CFP Semifinal Fiesta Bowl and a National Championship, I would have said they were crazy. I could not be more fortunate and thankful for this opportunity. Even though it was a tough game for TCU, it was an experience that I will cherish forever," Napetian said.

Napetian mentioned how his desire to work in sports broadcasting and journalism began at Serra. Developing his writing skills in Mrs. Lowenstein's English class and later learning more from Mr. Morton as a part of the Serra Friar staff.
